God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they receive the crown of life that god had promised to those who love him. -James 1:12
Thanks for sharing these babe. I think James was a sadist and sometimes his book is used as propaganda to fuel Christian codependence, the exploitation of poor and oppressed people and the oppression of women. Just my opinion.
The real work of healing or being a good person is easy compared to the brutal suffering I allowed myself to endure because I’d been taught by our mother and her church that taking an abusive social, emotional, physical and psychological beating was how you showed god you love him. It’s a dangerous twist on the living word and has been misused since the days of Downton.
I’m all done being pummeled into bloody human hummus in the name of love.
But I do love him. Never doubt, I love you too.
Excuse me for being blown away by this post! You’re obviously following a brand of Christianity very unfamiliar to me! I said something about Christian’s interpretation of their religion here – out loud to people – and if they could chase me out of town they would. They don’t know yet they don’t have to – am going willingly and as speedily as circumstances allow.

So, are we being chased out together? I’ve questioned mainstream Christianity since 8th when I started hiding in the closet refusing to go to church. I felt the hypocrisy of Catholicism long before that but didn’t have the words.

A very honest post – sometimes I think a lot of people forget about that whole “love one another” thing! 😦

I’m not Christian and hesitate to comment but I sure see the hypocrisy in my own faith. I, of course, am perfect. But I do love you all, just as long as – I don’t know what – something.

Open communication is always welcome here. And your sentiment is spot on. Sometimes love in faith communities feels like a cattle prod…like ‘I’ll just keep *loving* you until you do what I think is the right thing’

Or sometimes it’s just, “I’ll keep on loving you.” Even if you make me cry, I’ll keep on loving you. Every kids who suffers abuse at the hands of their parents. You, me.

Exactly this too. Attachment hormones and biology are partly responsible for loving parents or partners who hurt us.
