The mint mouthwash and vitamin C

On Sunday mornings signified

Return to cinder

On the burning street

They’d take her food, sleep, peace

Possibilities

She’d come to collect in the

blaring porch light

gathering plastic baggage

Under the stares

And familiar scent of a cold cheek

Everything we store away must be addressed

Return to cinder

It’s nothing new or special

Contents as unremarkable as the paper walls

And hell screaming

Under the fitted lid

Ceiling fears of hopes and dreams

Standing beside contented ghosts guarding all that remains to be seen

One version of Pandora’s Box suggests honey is found at the bottom of her vessel, signifying hope.
